Steps to enrol your child in Foundation for the 2024 school year

If your child is starting Foundation in 2024, you will be able to apply to enrol your child from the start of Term 2, 2023 (Monday 24 April 2023).

What you need to do:

  1. Use Find my School to check that Avondale Primary School is your local designated neighbourhood school and read about enrolling in a school. Please note school zones for 2024 will be available in late Term 1, 2023. Your child has a right to enrol at their local school. Your child’s local school is determined on the basis of their permanent residential address.
  2. Contact our school to book a school tour or to learn more about the school and the enrolment application process.
  3. Download the ‘Foundation Enrolment Information Pack for Parents/Carers for the 2024 school year' (available to download from the start of Term 2, 2023).
  4. Submit an enrolment application for Foundation by Friday 28 July 2023.
  5. You will be notified of the outcome of your application by Friday 11 August 2023. If you receive an offer of placement, you should accept the offer by Friday 25 August 2023.
  6. Take part in enrolment information and transition sessions during Term 4, 2023.
  7. Your child will start Foundation from Tuesday 30 January 2024.

Enrolment applications submitted after 28 July 2023 will be processed by the school as they are received, in accordance with the Department’s Placement Policy.

If you are seeking to apply to enrol your child in a school that is not their local school, you should read about school zonesand how they work and how applications are prioritised using the Department’s Placement Policy found on the enrolling in a school page.

Please visit the starting school page on the Victorian government website.

AVONDALE PRIMARY SCHOOL ZONE

Our school zone is available on the Find my School website which hosts the most up-to-date information about Victorian school zones. Students residing in this zone are guaranteed a place at our school, which is determined on the basis of your permanent residential address. The Department provides guidance through the Placement Policy to ensure that students have access to their designated neighbourhood school and the freedom to choose other schools, subject to facility limitations. You can find more information and answers to frequently asked questions on the Department’s website under School zones.

Information on the site is updated in Term 1 each year, ready for the Year 6 to 7 transition period.

HOW TO ENROL

Simply call our friendly Administrations Team on 9318 1755 who will organise a time for you to meet with us.  As part of the enrolment process we like to meet with all prospective families and undertake a school tour.

A school tour is an excellent way to get an inside look at the different cultures and programs of our school.  The best time to attend is during school hours as you will see the students and teachers in action.

Tours usually run for 30 minutes which will give you a look into all year level classrooms, a chance to see the excellent facilities and ask questions along the way.

You can also visit our Foundation Teaching and Learning News page to learn more about what our Foundation students have been learning throughout the year.

TERM 3 SCHOOL TOURS:

Wednesday 19 July @ 9.30am

Wenesday 26 July @ 9.30am

Please call 9318 1755 to book a place on a tour.

To assist us in assessing your child’s eligibility for enrolment, please include in your enrolment application original or certified copies of:
  1. Rental agreements or unconditional contracts of sale
plus
     2.  A copy of  two of the following:
  • electoral enrolment confirmation
  • council rates notices
  • other official documentation that demonstrates permanent residency at that address such as a driver's license, health care card or current utility bill
Documents should show the same address and parent’s/carer’s name as recorded on the school enrolment application form.

On request, you may also be required to complete a statutory declaration confirming the student is living at the address provided in the enrolment application and that the arrangement is genuine and intended to be permanent.

Note: Enrolment applications may not be successful if the requested documentation is not provided.

Enrolment applications will also need to include original or certified copies of:

  • Birth Certificate
  • Immunisation Certificate
  • Passport, if born overseas
  • Visa (if applicable)

PROOF OF IMMUNISATION

By law, primary schools are required to request and record information on the immunisation status of students prior to enrolment. Parents or guardians must provide an immunisation status certificate to the school regardless of whether the child is or is not immunised.
From 28 February 2018 only an Immunisation History Statement from the Australian Immunisation Register can be accepted as proof of immunisation status on school entry.

A member of the enrolment team can assist you to complete the enrolment forms.

The forms must be completed, signed and returned to our office with the following original documents. These will be copied by the school and returned.

If you have any queries or questions about enrolling at Avondale Primary please send us an email at avondale.ps@education.vic.gov.au  or phone our office on 9318 1755.

OVERSEAS FAMILIES

For families arriving from overseas, school entry is determined by the Visa Subclass Number on your child's Passport. Students unable to enrol directly into the school can enrol via the International Students Unit. Please contact them by phone on 03 9637 2990, by email on international@education.vic.gov.au or visit their website on www.study.vic.gov.au for further information.

FOUNDATION 2024 PARENT INFORMATION NIGHT

A parent information night is held in Term 4 each year for enrolled Foundation families to welcome you into the school community and provide you with important information to help make the transition to the school a pleasant and smooth experience.

FOUNDATION 2024 TRANSITION PROGRAM

Secondary to the Parent Information Night, we organise transition mornings for children to spend time at school getting to know their future school and teachers.  This is an important feature of our enrolment process which gives your child an insight of what to expect in Foundation for the following year.

We encourage parents with a younger child who will attend school next year to enrol their child as early as possible.

If you have neighbours whose eldest child will start school next year, please inform them that enrolments are being accepted.
