Welcome to Avondale Primary School!

Enrolling your child in primary school may feel a little daunting but the information on this page is designed to provide you with a comprehensive introduction to our enrolment application procedures.

Enrolments at Avondale Primary are led by the Principal, Jill Benham and supported by the Assistant Principal, Joe Scarfo and Administration Officer, Sue Kitanovski.

Our Admissions Team will:

  • Guide you through the admissions process.
  • Book individual or group school tours
  • Answer questions about our school and its programs
  • Support you through the enrolment process to Avondale Primary

Due to current zoning restrictions we are only able to accept enrolments from families who reside within our school zone. Please see the link below to determine if you fall within our enrolment zone.

Simply call our friendly Administrations Team on 9318 1755 who will organise a time for you to meet with us.  As part of the enrolment process we like to meet with all prospective families and undertake a school tour.

A school tour is an excellent way to get an inside look at the different cultures and programs of our school.  The best time to attend is during school hours as you will see the students and teachers in action.

Tours usually run for 30 minutes which will give you a look into all year level classrooms, a chance to see the excellent facilities and ask questions along the way.

Term 2 tours will run on Thursdays at 9:30am & 10am commencing Thursday 29th April. Please call 9318 1755 to book a place on a tour.

To assist Avondale Primary School in assessing your child's eligibility for enrolment, please include in your enrolment application original or certified copies of place of residence documents:

  1. Rental agreements or unconditional contracts of sale plus
  2. A copy of two of the following:
  • electoral enrolment confirmation
  • council rates notices
  • other official documentation that demonstrates permanent residency at that address such as a driver's license or health care card.

Enrolment applications will also need to include original or certified copies of:

  • Birth Certificate
  • Immunisation Certificate
  • Passport, if born overseas
  • Visa (if applicable)

We encourage parents with a younger child who will attend school next year to enrol their child as early as possible.

If you have neighbours whose eldest child will start school next year, please inform them that enrolments are being accepted.

If you have any queries or questions about enrolling at Avondale Primary please send us an email at avondale.ps@edumail.vic.gov.au  or phone our office on 9318 1755.

A member of the enrolment team will assist you to complete the enrolment forms.

The forms must be completed, signed and returned to our office with the following original documents. These will be copied by the school and returned.

For families arriving from overseas, school entry is determined by the Visa Subclass Number on your child's Passport. Students unable to enrol directly into the school can enrol via the International Students Unit. Please contact them by phone on 03 9637 2990, by email on international@edumail.vic.gov.au or visit their website on www.study.vic.gov.au for further information.

Both a birth certificate and proof of immunisation must be sighted at the office on enrollment. By law, primary schools are required to request and record information on the immunisation status of students prior to enrolment. Parents or guardians must provide an immunisation status certificate to the school regardless of whether the child is or is not immunised.

From 28 February 2018 only an Immunisation History Statement from the Australian Immunisation Register can be accepted as proof of immunisation status on school entry.

A parent information night is held every year for enrolled families to welcome you into the school community.  Various school departments will be informing you of important information to help make the introduction to Prep and the school a pleasant and smooth experience.

Secondary to the Parent Information Night, we organise two transition mornings for children to spend time at school getting to know their future school and teachers.  This is an important feature of our enrolment process which gives your child an insight of what to expect in Prep for the following year.
