Hello to our Avondale community,

Our Book Week Parade was a wonderful celebration of literature, creativity and imagination, representing the theme, SYMPHONY OF STORIES in a powerful way. Students proudly showcased their thoughtfully designed costumes, bringing a diverse range of beloved book characters to life. It was a delight to see our students embracing the joy of reading while demonstrating our school values of Respect, Responsibility and Learning with enthusiasm, confidence and pride. We sincerely thank the many family members and friends who joined us for the parade and helped make the event so special. Your support, encouragement and collaboration with your children in creating such outstanding costumes contributed greatly to the success of the day. A special thank you to our staff, who enthusiastically joined in the celebrations and helped create a memorable experience for our students. The Book Week Parade was a fantastic reminder of the power of stories to inspire, connect and spark imagination in learners of all ages.

We would like to advise families that, from next term, our school canteen will operate two days per week instead of three, with Monday service no longer available. This decision has not been made lightly. Our canteen relies heavily on the generosity and support of volunteers. Unfortunately, we have been experiencing ongoing difficulties securing enough volunteers to consistently staff the canteen. To ensure we can continue providing a reliable and sustainable service on our remaining operating days, we have made the decision to reduce operations from three days to two. This has been a recommendation made by our school, with the approval of School Council. We understand that this change may require some adjustment for families and appreciate your understanding and support. We remain committed to providing a quality canteen service, run by our Canteen Manager, Di and are incredibly grateful to the volunteers who generously give their time to help make this possible. If you are available to volunteer in the canteen, even on an occasional basis, we would love to hear from you.

Our Grade 1, 2 and 3 students have made a big splash this week at Keilor East Leisure Centre, during the first week of our two-week Intensive Swimming Program. Students have shown enthusiasm, determination and a willingness to challenge themselves as they develop their swimming and water safety skills. They have participated in daily lessons tailored to their ability levels, focusing on building confidence in the water, improving stroke technique and learning important water safety practices. It has been great to see our students living our values, encouraging one another, celebrating personal achievements and demonstrating resilience as they work towards their individual goals. We look forward to seeing students continue to build on their learning and achievements during the second week of the program. Thank you to our staff, parent/carer volunteers, swimming instructors and families for their support in making this valuable learning experience possible.

Our Father's Day and Special Person's Stall was a wonderful success and a fantastic example of the strong sense of community that exists within our school. Students thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to select a special gift for the important father figures and special people in their lives and it was heartwarming to see the excitement and care they put into choosing the perfect present. A sincere thank you to our dedicated Fundraising Team for their organisation and planning to bring this event to life. Their commitment and generosity of time ensured a smooth and enjoyable experience for all students. Events such as the Father's Day and Special Person's Stall not only create special memories for our families but also strengthen the connections between home and school. Happy Father's Day to all the dads, grandfathers, carers and special father figures and special people in our community.

Our 2025 Annual Report to the School Community is now available and can be accessed via our school website. The Annual Report provides an overview of our school's achievements throughout 2025, highlighting student learning outcomes, wellbeing initiatives, community engagement, financial performance and the many successes that have contributed to another positive year of growth and achievement. The report reflects the collective efforts of our students, staff, families and School Council in working together to provide high-quality learning opportunities and a supportive environment in which every child can thrive. We encourage all members of our school community to take the time to read the report and celebrate the progress and accomplishments of our school. We also invite families and community members to attend our Annual Report to the School Community Public Meeting, which will be held on Tuesday, September 8 at 2.45pm. This session provides an opportunity to hear about the key highlights of the report, reflect on our achievements and learn more about the work that has taken place across the school during the 2025 year. Together, we continue to build a vibrant and successful learning community for all students.
