Established in 1961, Avondale Primary School is located on an attractive, well-maintained site, close to all amenities, approximately 10 kilometres north-west of Melbourne.

This school is situated in a geographically definable area surrounded on three sides by the Maribyrnong River. The school has strong links with the local community and supports a range of community activities.

Enrolments have been progressively increasing since the mid 1990s to the current 2009 figure of 292. Several medium and high density housing developments in the immediate and adjacent neighbourhoods are currently under construction. Enrolments are expected to continue increasing at 5% per year for the foreseeable future.
